8 Oct 2005, Girls U11: Urmston Town 1 – 6 Oswald Rd (HT:0-3)

The girls played brilliantly in this match, as it was 6-1 with a bit of cheering from managers Mike and Lou and teacher Mrs King. We were very happy she came to watch us (well the players from her class were!). In the 1st half Chantal knocked in a goal. After that Ruqayyah knocked in 2 more goals. So by the end of the half it was 3-0. In the 2nd half SophieA scored and then hit 2 more in, by then it was 6-0 but when every one wasn’t looking their team crept up, shot and unfortunately scored. Minutes later the ref blew the whistle, the match ending at 6-1. A very very very very very very very very very very very good match.

Six of the best!!

The Oswald Road girls lifted the gloom of a cold and wet Saturday morning by beating a tough Urmston town team 6–1, and made their first win of the season. The girls needed a spot of form to lift them a little, after two weeks of drawn games that maybe they could have won. The team were "up for it" right from the start and were cheered on by K6 class teacher Mrs King. Player of the day Ruqayyah, was soon in the thick of the action, and determined to make her mark on the game. Once the team found some rhythm and the passes were linking up, it wasn’t long before SophieA and Naomi had set up Chantelle to fire in the first goal from close range. Anghie and Katie were solid at the back giving Sukdev some time off in goal, but the captain still motivated the team, and kept focused throughout the quieter moments of the game. By now Ruqayyah was playing with supreme confidence and soon scored the first of what was to be two good goals. Despite Oswald going three up, Urmston still pressed and tactical switches were made to keep the defence solid. Tanya came on to tighten the midfield and SophieP came on as a striker.

At half time Sohie A. was feeling left out of the action and decided she was going to get on the score sheet, and she did with style, a second half hat trick was crowned with a magnificent third goal that Bobby Charlton would have been proud of. Urmston battled and scored a deserved goal. This unsettled the Os a little but Katie moved back to defence and stopped any hope of a revival. Anghie and Naomi both played tirelessly and their roles were crucial in creating the chances for others. Sukdev was calm and in control of the goal. SophieP reinvented herself as a striker and went close to scoring on two occasions. The strikers SophieA, Chantelle and Ruqayyah all grew with confidence with every kick of the ball and Katie showed maturity in playing the role of sweeper with great ease. Tanya’s contribution to the game was never ending, and it will only be a matter of time before she scores her first goal.

Ruqayyah had promised the managers and team a performance, and she gave one she could be proud of, and deserved to be player of the day. A great win for the Os !!
