05-Nov 2005, Girls U13: Woodbank Athletic 1 – 11 Oswald Rd (HT:0-6)
The game started with Rayne in net, Aphra and Niamh in defence, Annie in floater midfield alongside Frankie on the left and Moly right, and Jody up front anxious for goals. It kicked off with Woodbank winning the kick but our midfielder Annie wasn’t going to let anything pass. There was central passing between Molly and Frankie, our tireless skilful wingers. Suddenly Woodbank had a sneaky break through and were in sight of goal but, with Niamh our powerful left back passing the ball away and Aphra doing brave tackles, all the shots were either deflected or cleared. Rayne (back in net) was getting quite bored!!!! Meanwhile, the ball had travelled up field to be received and dribbled into the back of the net by Jody, our demanding striker after seven minutes. Now the goals were being raked in – after a through ball from Annie, Molly had a shot from wide to get a challenging goal, it was 2-0 to Oswald Rd. Only three minutes later the ball was in the back of the net from Woodbank’s centre kick the strikers were tackled and skilled by Jody who now had two goals. Woodbank had two shots, which were either inaccurate or saved by Rayne, our alert keeper. The next goal was scored by Molly who took an aerial corner and hit it into the back of the net. Rayne came out of net at seventeen and a half minutes and scored two goals. The half time score was 0-6 (yes).
The second half began with Roberta in net, Molly in defence with Aphra beside her. Midfield had Niamh on the right, Frankie on the left, and Rayne alongside Jody up front. The game started fast, both teams eager to play, shots on goal missed at each end. Frankie was endlessly fouled but got back to her feet each time, and played on even though the ref never called it our way. A breakthrough at fifty minutes came when Jody scored. Followed by three more goals from Rayne, one off a volley. Finally came across from the left, Frankie just missed but up popped Niamh to tap it in – her first goal of the season. Well done to all the girls, who played to the end, kept their cool and did not let the other teams’ bad attitude and game play distract them.
