29 Oct 2005, Girls U13: Wythenshawe Town 3 – 6 Oswald Rd (HT:3-2)
Even with a late start, Oswald Rd girls were in high spirits. The match kicked off with Oswald Road dominating the match. Molly, Aphra and Niamh were all in different positions than normal, hoping to make a difference to the score line. The defence was on form with Molly receiving the ball; Molly’s passes were a great help to the team, enabling the strikers to stay down field. Hanaan did several spectacular tackles, clearing the ball down the wing. Rayne, set up twice by Molly, put the first two goals in the back of the net from accurate throws. Niamh never stopped running in the first half, making great passes to the other midfielders. Frankie kept her wing covered and her passes accurate, also keeping a vital player tightly marked. Aphra had three unfortunate misses but kept her head high, leaving the first half 3-2. (So how & when did they score – Ed.)
The second half started with Rayne in net, Roberta in defence alongside Molly and Hanaan, who were keeping the defence tight. Roberta did well and stood her ground, enabling Molly to go forward. Annie was brought on, helping Frankie in midfield; although Oswald Road made adaptations, Wynthenshawe got in a few sneaky shots. Then a great goal kick was coolly collected by Frankie and she slotted the ball into the back of the net. 3-3 now and Wythenshawe tried to up the pressure but that just made Oswald Road diamond hard and sharpened our passes. A shot was blocked by Roberta and deflected for a corner. As Wythenshawe’s players moved dangerously around in the box, Rayne intercepted the corner but hurt her thumb as a result. The Coaches decided it would be too risky for her to continue in net, so Molly volunteered to go in goal. Two well-weighted precision goal kicks from Molly were sent up field, resulting in two swift goals from Jody! Finally there was the sight of Wythenshawe giving up when Rayne made a skilful run towards the net and scored the final goal. Even though the opposition had free kicks, corners and skilful players, Oswald Rd still managed to finish with the score at 3-6! WELL DONE!!!!!!
