21 Jan 2006, Girls U13: Oswald Rd 5 – 1 Broadheath (HT:1-1)

This match was closer than the score line suggests – the main difference between the teams being Oswald Rd’s rock-solid defence. Keeping in mind our last encounter with Broadheath when they scythed through our defence and peppered the goal with shots, we started the first half with Rayne in goal instead of our ‘novice’ keeper Roberta. Broadheath were mostly kept in check by our defence and midfield but we only got the ball to our attackers via midfield a few times – most of our attacks coming from Rayne’s kicks from goal. Jody scored from one of our forays into their half when the attackers moved forward and into space and thus stretched the Broadheath defence. Broadheath struck back quickly with a bit of sharp passing and a good shot past Rayne. So the first half ended 1-1 with Broadheath having most of the possession. For the second half we put Roberta back in goal and moved Rayne into midfield-attack. Broadheath must have had a good half-time talk because they came out in the second half and really started to pile on the pressure, but we also had a good talk from our coaches as the defence were well organised and held firm – any balls which did get through were saved by Roberta. Their defence were drawn forward to increase the pressure and suddenly we were overloading their defence with only two attackers – their defenders were slow to get back and through-balls from Molly and Hanaan were leapt on by Rayne and Jody, both of whom could easily beat two defenders. This was where Broadheath’s goalie showed her worth but she couldn’t keep out all the shots and Rayne scored a rapid three in-between Broadheath’s attacks, each one well taken and giving their goalie no chance. Jody dealt the killer blow near the end and Broadheath must have wondered if they’d played the City-United derby by mistake! Maniac (Roberta) got the player of the match because she broke Broadheath’s hearts in the second half with her great saves when they were desperately trying to break through.

The following report was done a couple of weeks after the match by a committee whose memory was obviously heavily impaired by vast quantities of chocolate, doughnuts, pop and muzak:

1st half: We had a brilliant start again we had possession, power and skill. We started off with the defenders noodles and Afro at the back and we had our GAP covered by Caution. In midfield we had Lollypop on the right, Giant on the left and Smurf in the Centre. We had Jammy up front and not forgetting our great keeper maniac in goal. They started with a great ball but we were in there straight away. They had no chance of getting past us. Jammy got hold of the ball, passed it to Smurf then she ran up with it dribbling up the field and passed it to Lollypop who crossed it into Jammy who plonked it into the net!! Then they started with there free kick and ran up the pitch but Caution in that GAP tackled there number 6 Paris and passed it up to Jammy who then passed it to Smurf who took a shot on goal and SCORED!!!! 2-0. Again they had a centre kick they dribbled up with the ball past Caution and Afro and Maniac saved it.

2nd half: It was our centre kick now and we were getting so ready for this, you wont believe. Smurf started by kicking the ball to Jammy who then ran with the ball, then kicked it out to her right wing, Lollypop was there then Lollypop ran up with the ball a little bit more then tried to cross it but ended up chipping it so it went over the top of the goal keeper and in the net YAY!!!! 3-0. It was Broadheath centre kick they passed it between them all and got past us all by dribbling, the got to Maniac, tricked her and shot on goal and scored.3-1 to us. It was our centre kick Lollypop passed it to Jammy who then passed it to Smurf who then ran up with it, then she got closed down bye the opposition so she crossed it into Jammy who then shot on goal but the keeper saved it, unlucky Jammy. The ball was played to Broadheath, by this time the defenders were getting pretty bored and Maniac of course, but they were in luck (which is a bad thing) and number 3 Mica dribbled down with the ball, but she had no chance off getting past our defenders, because afro went in for the tackle she got the ball off her and passed it to Caution who then passed it onto Smurf who dribbled a little bit with the ball and decided to take her chances and take a shot on goal and what do you know she SCORED YAY!!! 4-1. It was there centre kick again Mica number 3 ran past Jammy and Lollypop, then she got past Caution, but Afro was able to tackle her but skilfully Mica passed it to 6 Paris, who was tackled by Noodles great 1. Noodles passed it up to Giant. Giant made a run for it but Broadheath defenders were closing her down so she passed it to Lollypop on the other side off the pitch who then ran up with it and crossed it in and Jammy did a wonderful volley and in the back of the NET!!! 5-1. Oswald road played very well in this match. WELL DONE OZZIE GIRLS!!!!!
