25 Mar 2006, Girls U13: Oswald Rd 2 – 8 Woodbank United (HT:2-4)

This was the U13’s crunch semi-final match – unfortunately we were drawn against the top team in the league. We had previously beaten both of the teams in the other semi-final so we were a bit unlucky with the draw. We had the whole team available except Niamh (who was away) and Lucy (who was ineligible for a cup match).

The first half was close with many chances created for both sides, the main difference being the power and accuracy of Woodbank’s forwards. Our defence and midfield fought hard for every ball and Rayne scored two good goals (they had to be, to get past their goal keeper) – so we ended the half in a reasonable position. In the second half, Woodbank pressed forward and tightened up in midfield, so we started to lose composure on the ball and the accuracy of our passes went down. Woodbank move the ball well out to the flanks and cross well and they scored a few goals with moves that crossed the width of the pitch.

In the end the score line flattered Woodbank a bit, but we’re definitely improving every time we play them.
