GU12 04-Nov-06:
This was a game that Wythenshawe didn’t particularly win – we lost it. We were reasonably confident about winning before we started, but when Sophie A. banged in a good goal after about three minutes, we seemed to take the attitude “well that’s it” and expected the game to win itself for us. :-(
Overall there was a lack of shine and polish and a definite lack of Lustre to our Cluster. Wythenshawe were back in the game after about 10 minutes, scoring a reasonable goal from a low shot. Sophie A. continued to be their tormentor and fired in a shot which their keeper fumbled and it trickled over the line. But then Wythenshawe got back in the game just before half time when we should have been three or four up.
Managers and subs were frustrated by Oswald’s insistence on hanging on to the ball and faffing around when the best option was to whack it in as a shot, or pass it forward. It was interesting that when the subs were off the pitch they could clearly see this but couldn’t act on it when they were on the pitch. (Lack of paying attention at training, I’d say – Ed.)
In the second half we stepped down a gear but had flurries when we played o.k. Nai popped in a looping shot, Katie hit the post and Sophie A had a couple of good shots saved.
Ruq was a solid as ever at the back and Tanya was tireless in her efforts and kept a positive attitude, for this she earned player of the day. Zoe is still finding her feet, but looked o.k. Becks kept the score line respectable and was nominated by Wyth as player of the day. (Ed: our goalie is nominated by a team we should have beaten! So we must have been pretty poor.)
Overall not our best performance and should have been a game to celebrate a win over and not have a post mortem on.
