GU12 02-Dec-06:
As expected Barhill completed a heavy defeat on the Os, however we made them work for it and we came out of the game a lot more confident about taking them on next time. We started the game in frustrating fashion, with only seven players. Katie had to borrow a set of boots which unfortunately gave her a blister, and so she spent the second half in goal. Katie was playing well up to this point. This upset our plans a little and gave us no options at all.
We started out defensively and we were playing well and getting the odd break against play, but Barhill broke us down, with a combination of reasonably good goals and some silly ones which we gave them. I counted four in total that we were clearly at fault for. But still, SophieA played well enough to be nominated player of the day and Ruq earned our teams nomination with a sterling defence and attack display, I think if we had let Ruq up a little earlier we may have had a goal or two. SophieP was battling her hardest and was good in defence stepping in and wiping out their attacks regularly. Becks was confident in goal and wasn’t at fault for most of their goals – they are a very good team! Zoe had an unenviable first half job of being the only up front player and did what she had to well. Tanya was pegged back and couldn’t get out of defence for the attacking runs she likes to do. So we took the defeat with grace but made Barhill work for every goal, next time with a full squad of players we will inflict a dent in their pride and the day will be ours???!
Mike
1ST HALF
To start with, Lou was stuck at work and my dad was in La Belle France (Grenoble) so we were short of adult coaches with only Mike available but no-one to help out but luckily SophieA’s dad was also a coach (boys though) so he helped Mike. He was quite good as well. Unlucky match although we did expect it, but 9 beats 17. We played a brilliant match even though it was a loss. The first goal was well scored and it was unlucky that Becks or the defenders couldn’t stop it from going into the net. The next one was just like the first only it was an inch away from our defender’s foot. After that, two goals were scored that shouldn’t have been, one deflected off our goalie (Becky) into the goal and the other went quickly in-between Ruqayyah’s legs while she was standing near the back post. Soon it was half time at 4-0 to them. We were proud that we had only let 4 goals in despite all the pressure. Our players were fighting all the way.
2ND HALF
Katie had a blister so she swapped with Becky. We played more sloppily in the 2nd half thinking it would end at only 4-0 and we were getting more and more relaxed. Though we didn’t let in another 13 goals (which was good!), time flew by and under more pressure, we let in 3 more goals. Soon their goalie came out and scored a goal (we should always stop that sort of thing – we won’t let it happen next time). One of their observers said “Well if _______ scored then the game must be over! (Laughs)”. Laugh all you want, you’ll just be relieved next time if you win! It was 8-0 and we were all determined not to let another goal in, but sadly the last one slipped passed Katie and the game ended 9-0 to them. NICE ONE GIRLS – 9 BEATS 17!! Watch out Barhill.
