gU13 29-Sep-07: Stockport County 30-0 Oswald Rd (HT 13-0)

In the first half Becky let a couple of goals in but she played good. SophieP played good as well – nearly everyone played good. Zoe was running up and down the pitch, and Taz nearly scored from a freekick. Katie was very good – she got the ball skilling out the players a couple of times. The second half we played a lot better but the final score was 30-0. We got no goals but we played good.

Becky – played good in net but let some goals in and she played out of net, running up and down the pitch well.
SophieP – tacked a couple of times, played good.
Shaye – running up and down the pitch well, tackled again.
Katie – played very good and let most of the goals in.
Kenesha – got an injury a couple of times but played good
Ruki – played great running up and down.
Taz – played very good, nearly scored by a hat-trick.
Zoe – played very god, running up and down the pitch.

Taz (Tara)

We were 8 vs 9 again, but this time we played like we were half-asleep – and Stockport were very good. They were fast and aggressive and soon had the ball blasting into the net may times over. At least Becky got plenty of practice in goal and made some good saves. Our defence lost shape quickly as Sophie still wasn’t very mobile (knees scabbed) and we kept being caught the wrong side of the attackers. The midfield came back to help and just got in each others way with Stockport passing the ball round well. We started playing better and fended off a few attacks, even launching some of our own, so we ended the half better than we started it.

Disaster! In the 2nd half, Katie went into goal as she had a blister on her heel. Becky went into Ruqayyah’s position and Ruq went into Katie’s. We had to play with 7 for some of this half as Sophie had fallen onto her nearly-healed knees and needed to let them recover. The team never gave up though and went on a few swift attacks but Stockport turned out to have an annoyingly good goalie and she made some very good saves – one from an excellent free kick from Tara – otherwise we would have scored at least 4 goals. The changes messed up our organisation even more and Stockport scored even more goals but Ozzie Girls never let it get them down, held their heads high and kept on trucking and having a good time. Stockport were impressed by our spirit and mentioned it in their report – http://www.stockportcountyladies.com/NewsItem.aspx?id=31 – where they said “our thanks to the Oswald Road players for their spirit and ‘never say die’ attitude, despite being under-strengthed, to contribute to a great advertisement for girls’ football”.
