1 Oct 2005, Girls U11: Oswald Rd 2 – 2 Wythenshawe Town (HT: 0-1)

The Oswald Road girls u11s came away from this game with their first goals of the season, and their second set of points, The Os started the game without the spark they showed in the second half, and for the first 20 minutes it was all Wythenshawe, with the ball hardly leaving the Oswald half of the pitch. However the goalkeeper Rebecca, and defence Angie and Tanya were solid. It came as no surprise, but was a blow, when Wythenshawe opened the scoring. The Os didnt collapse, but picked up, Sophie A. and Katie stepped up and livened their play, and before half time we had managed to test the Wythenshawe defence and goalkeeper.

Half time was greeted with an almighty rain and hailstorm. the coaches wondered if spirits could be lifted as the players were all now very cold and very wet. Tactically Tanya was switched to midfield from the back and Ruqayyah from the front to the middle. This worked as now we had a better grasp of the middle of the park. Soon the Os were pressuring Wythenshawe and it was a great relief when Sophie A. powered home the first goal of the season for the Os, with the help of the post and the goalkeepers heel. Moments later Katie scored a goal that was always threatened, coolly threading the ball between keeper, post and defender. From here the game opened up and at this point it could have gone either way. Nothing was getting past Angie however.

It was a blow when Wythenshawe scored their second goal, particularly as the ball seemed to stroll lazily past three defenders and the goalkeeper before crossing the line. Sukdev, Katie and SophieA were by now played some wonderful passing football and one move led to what would have been the goal of the Month, when SophieA crashed the ball on to the underside of the bar. Tanya was determined to get herself on to the scoring sheet and went close several times from long range shots. Sukdev ran tirelessly in midfield, and Ruqayyah twisted and turned like only Giggs and Ronaldo can.

However the game ended a 2-2 draw which both sides would probably feel was a fair result.
