12 Nov 2005, Girls U11: Broadheath 16 – 1 Oswald Rd (HT:7-0)
The match ended 16-1. Most of them were daft goals when one of our team kicked it back or they tricked Sukdev and she bangs her head into the goalpost (poor Sukdev). There was even one where one of the Ossie’s did an own goal (but made it to the goal list all the same). In the second half everyone perked up and Sophie managed to get a goal in (WAHOO). Their first goal just got in the corner of the net as did 14 more, their other goals were long shots taken by their half that just got in as well. Through the game we had Sukdev in net then Katie then Angharad and even right at the end Rebecca got 8 mins in. Everyone swapped places and either made brilliant shots, tackles or saves. Some people thought of it as a training match to let us know how good Unicorn Emerald’s would be. We did good at the end even though some of us were down but we know that next time we’ll do better.

Some you win ....................
Where do we start ? We got a few things right today, and a few things wrong. The preparation for what was always going to be a pasting, was very good, we sorted out our game plan, and the pre match warm ups and attitude were very good. We started the game well and created a few chances, as did Broadheath. After 10 mins or so Broadheath scored the first of what seemed to be a whole load of very scrappy goals, their third was good, it was a solo effort and a good strike which brought applause from both sets of supporters. However with about five minutes to go to half time the Os were 5-0 down. What ever we were lacking, completely disappeared and some players came off at half time, were struggling with a positive attitude and had given up. Some didn’t, and Sophie P. particularly was full of inspiration and drive. Naomi had lifted spirits by taking on Broadheath’s biggest girl and was winning the tackles time after time. Sophie A. and Ruq did make chances and on another day maybe could have had a goal or two.
Halftime 7-0 down and in the second half the managers and players completely lost the plot. Soon we just wanted the game to be over and go home, but the Os put together a 10 min spell when they created five or six great chances and Sophie fired in one of the better goals of the game. The game got silly towards the end and Broadheath scrambled in a shed load of daft goals. The game was played in good spirit and Broadheath never stopped respecting The Os. However the game was a disaster and an embarrassment for us.We have a lot to learn from this game and taking on board our mistakes and attitude problems in a constructive way can only make us better players. We will work on this in training and come out better and stronger. Broadheath were the top team before the game and will be a hard team to beat respect to them! We now have to lift ourselves for the Sale united game next week, so come on you Os !!!!!!
