03 Dec 2005, Girls U13: Unicorn Saphires 2 – 1 Oswald Rd (HT:0-1)
Unfortunately our goal keeper was off ill with the flu so everybody had to switch positions. One pf our strikers Jody had to go into goal. Our other Striker Rayne had been knocked off her bike by a car a few days before so her playing wasn't at her best ability. So our attack wasn't as good as usual. One of our midfielders Giant (Frankie) was consistently fouled by the opposition but she didn't receive any free kicks. Near the beginning of the first half Giant managed to score an unexpected goal giving us a 1-0 lead. We kept this score until deep in the second half when the scored an equalising corner. A few minutes later they scored another goal finishing the match at 2-1.

This report is written 2nd hand as I wasn’t present at the match.
Roberta was off with the 5-day flu so our recently recovered striker Jody was in goal all match. Rayne had been run over by a car while cycling earlier in the week (no broken bones – just soft tissue injury) and so was only on for the first part of both halves. And as Frankie was fouled consistently all through the match and given little protection by the inexperienced referee, we didn’t have much of an attack. The opposition actually accused Giant of diving when she was tripped and barged aside by players twice her size! Cheeky sods. Anyway, we scored in the first half – Frankie scored, dunno how – and were leading until 5 minutes from the end of the second half when they scored two goals from corners. A bit disappointing but – as we had no fit substitutes – the defence were knackered and didn’t react quickly enough to the corners (I’m told, I wasn’t there). We’ll have to work on our defending from corners. And we’ll have to beat them next time. By lots. Oh, I’m also told Jody played brilliantly in goal and made lots of good saves, so maybe we were a bit lucky to be leading so long. Bleah, I still want to beat them next time. For Frankie. For England!
