18 Feb 2006, Girls U11: Oswald Rd 3 – 4 Unicorn Rubies (HT:2-2)

A combination of the managers playing this wrong and a Rubies team out for their first win of the season led to a pretty disastrous result for us. We brought in two good players Jodi and Chantelle to give them some match practice, but their lack of edge that comes with playing regularly showed a little. Tactically we played our ace goalkeeper Sukdev out all game and although Becks gave a very good account of herself the team was out of rhythm and unsettled.

However, it was the Os who went one up when the Rubies goalkeeper gifted Sophie A an open goal. the Rubies came at us and seemed to want the game more than we did. Soon they were two up but Katie added some spark to the Os play and rattled in a long shot, through their goalies legs. We had a lot of players to get on the pitch and the team play became a little disjointed as a result. But half time 2-2. Soon into the second half the Rubies were 3-2 up but to our credit came back when Ruq fired in a close range shot.

We started to put some passes together to press the Rubies but it was them who sneaked the winner to make it 4-3 to them. We were a little lack-lustre, and will have to put this down to experience. We play them again in a couple of weeks time and will be looking for a very different result.
