18 Feb 2006, Girls U13: Oswald Rd 2 – 3 St Johns (HT:0-0)

St Johns have vastly improved – knuckling down to their coaches orders and using their wits during the game. So it was that the Ozzies attacked and attacked and attacked but got no result in the first half with some very solid defending from St Johns – especially Layla who was marking Rayne like she was her shadow. When Rayne did get away from Layla there was always another defender straight onto her, and with the others unable to get away from their markers there was usually no one to pass to!

We had so much of the game that in the second half we pushed forward and got goals but every time we did so, they managed to get one back with quick breakaways from fast forwards overloading our defence and giving clear shots on goal. Aargh! The girls were very frustrated after the game as they thought we should have won but all credit to St Johns who stuck to a game plan that got us. This time.
