11 Feb 2006, Girls U11: Oswald Rd 0 – 4 Broadheath (HT:0-1)

If nothing else, this was a morale boosting game. After a 16-1 mauling earlier in the season this was always going to be a tough match. It took a little while for the defence to sort themselves out but Angie and Tanya soon found their feet and blocked everything Broadheath could throw at them. Ruq in her temporary position of central defence held the show together. The Os were catching Broadheath on the break and Nai was cutely tackling, and switching the direction of the game well. Sophie came close with a speculative half volley, that shook Broadheath. Sukdev looked comfortable as ever, pulling off a series of good saves. It was frustrating when Broadheath went one nil up and they heaved a sigh of relief. 1-0 at half time, and the game was still on.

Katie had a great second half looking good in the centre, but Broadheath nicked a second and so we switched tactics. Becks went in to goal and Sukdev came out. Becks almost died on the spot when she made a mistake to let in Broadheaths third, but picked herself up incredibly well to prevent Broadheath scoring a shed full. The Os weren’t bad for their money and the last few weeks have taught us that we can compete with the top teams in the league.
