18 Mar 2006, Girls U11: Unicorn Rubies 1 – 2 Oswald Rd (HT:0-0)
1st half!!!
We were against the Unicorn Rubies and everything was fine in the first half. No goals at all from each team in that half. Katie had a chance but it went wide. Chantelle also had a chance but that went wide. One of their chances was nearly a goal. SophieA blocked the ball then it bounced off she ran to kick it and so did their striker but Sophie got there first and cleared it. Ruqayyah had a few runs but few chances, she ‘megged one of their players but their defenders outnumbered her and she got kicked painfully on the toe.
Soon after the ref blew the whistle and the 1st half ended.
2nd half!!!
In the 2nd half a lot of things happened and all the goals where scored. Firstly Ruqayyah had to go in net as Katie had injured her foot. They scored the first because they had managed to kick it past Tanya to the striker clear behind the defenders who ran up to Ruqayyah so it was a 1 on 1. Their striker booted it and went past Ruqayyah into the back of the net. The next goal was ours because Katie booted it from a corner and somehow someone of theirs or Katie it got into the net! It was then 1-1.
The next goal was ours as well. Ruqayyah cleared the ball from goal to Sophie.A. who ran down the wing , passing a few people, and crossed it in to Naomi ,who had run behind the goalie, she tapped it in. it was 2-1 to us. They then had lots of chances after that but didn’t score thanks to good last minute defending and solid keeping. Just minutes later the ref blew the whistle and it ended 2- 1 to us! Well-done girls!!!!!!

A rather lacklustre performance ended the Os league season, not with a bang but a whimper. The team was a little unbalanced and with no regular goalkeepers to call on and the two strikers doing a spot each. Sophie A and Ruq both had good games and it was Sophie who kept the clean sheet. The normally solid defence looked shaky today, and were making some elementary mistakes, the midfield couldn’t get the passing game together, and we didn’t look like a team who wanted to win a game. I’m not sure if the first half produce one shot on goal from us.
The girls got the half time roasting they deserved, and bucked up in the second half. We started to move more and stretched the Rubies, after a period of pressure Katie put in an in swinging corner and it bobbled in the near post. We relaxed a little but again some sloppy defensive play let in the Rubies goal hanger. And they pulled back a goal which they shouldn’t have scored. With SophieA out of goal we were looking more of an attacking team and to everyone’s relief Naomi scored her first goal of the season from a move we have practiced a hundred times. Sophie took the ball to the line crossed in and Nai was where she should have been for a tap in. It was a win, but by no means a stylish one. The Rubies played well and didn’t look to be the team that had struggled to find form all season.
