GU12 16-Sep-06: Wythenshaw Town
After one of the best ever training sessions on Thursday when all the girls put in a lot of effort into practicing and got properly tired instead of just gossiping and walking or prancing around, they carried the same mental attitude into this game. So we started the first half really well, with the defence getting to the ball and clearing or passing brilliantly to midfield. Our marking was also good and Wythenshaw found it hard to retain possession Our attacks paid off well with two well taken goals from SophieA. We relaxed a bit, Wythenshaw tried harder and a moments inattention from our defence allowed their attack too much room and they rifled a shot into goal.
In the second half, Wythenshaw came out all guns blazing but our defence played well, holding them back and passing accurately, allowing our attack to score more goals. And despite Wythenshaw getting through a few times after we had changed our players around, we had already put the game beyond any doubt – the score getting to 4-2 with a great penalty shot from Tara and then SophieA made it 5-2. The managers felt relaxed enough to allow Ruqayyah to come out of defence and she scored our last goal of the match.
