GU12 09-Sep-06: Oswald Rd 2-4 Urmston Pumas (HT 0-3)

This match was extremely good as we all tried our best and managed to knock in a few goals. It started off at 0-0 (obviously). We had… Rebecca in net, Ruqayyah left defence, Katie middle and Tanya far right (I think), our mids were Naomi and Sophie.A. (The captain for today) with Tara (our new corner taker) as striker. It started off easy until they had got the ball and were racing down the field with it going past some of our players. Their team was just outside the goalies box as one of our defenders scraggled for the ball and it accidentally went to one of their players, the defender ran to block it but just missed it and unfortunately so had Rebecca. The score was then 1-0. Everybody much tried much harder and blocked (or saved) the next few tries from them. Tara, SophieA and Nai had gone up and shot about 100 times but sadly their defenders had watchful eyes and blocked most of them (the others missed by an inch). Soon after all this in the 7th minute came their strikers who immediately got the ball in our box by a hard kicker from their team who got subbed on, anyway they had the ball in our half, they managed to keep the ball somehow and shot sadly the ball was too fast for Becks to save or anyone to block that then made it 2-0 to them. After this followed more attacks and failed shots by us. Then the ref blew his whistle and we all went off for half time.

2nd half: The 2nd half started as 2-0 to them but we didn’t care we would get some goals in no matter what it takes. In the first 3 minutes nothing much happened but soon enough they sprinted into our box and scored their 3rd goal making it 3-0. Fortunately after this we all got surprised as, one of our star players, Katie Shaw scored the first goal of the season then making it 3-1. Suddenly we all got back into the game to make our comeback and score another. Soon after we did, as Sophie A scored a terrific goal making our comeback, and leading it to 3-2. We all got stuck in and tried many shots and blocked/saved many shots trying to score or keep it at 3-2. Unfortunately when Ruqayyah tried to clear it and it accidentally went to their player who shot and scored. After, nothing much happened and the ref blew his whistle leaving it at 4-2. An excellent match. Well done girls!!!

Overall quite a good start for Oswald Rd – we started very slowly and two mistakes gifted two goals to the Pumas (one defender not clearing the ball, and one trying to dribble the ball from defence when a pass or clearance was needed). However both players immediately started playing much better and stopped many attacks and passed the ball up the field very well. After these two goals it was as if the whole team shook off their summer holiday mood and they really got stuck in.

In the second half, it was a much more balanced game with Oswald Rd having some really good chances and Katie and then SophieA finishing off good passing moves with deadly skill. The team moved very fluently as a team, with attackers helping out in midfield and defence as needed and defenders pushing up into midfield when we were attacking. If we’d played like that in the first half, we’d have won the game (probably).
