WE WON THE CUP! – Under 9’s win Final 4-1
The Under 9’s secured a trophy for the club at the end of the season with a magnificent 4-1 victory over Stretfordians in the final of the Timperley & District Division Two Cup on Sunday 14th May.
The support for the team from family, friends, younger and older club players and school staff was fantastic, with plenty of home made banners and placards.
The team saved their best performance of the season for the final and took control of the game with a goal from Oliver Schofield-McCarthy after just a minute and a half. Oswald Road pressed forward for much of the first 15 minutes, going close with 2 or 3 chances.
Stretfordians began to get back into the game towards the end of the first period and their pressure paid off with an equalizer early in the second 15 minutes. Encouraged by captain Edward McNally, the team recovered quickly, helped by determined midfield play from Tommy Whittell and Ilya Szkwarok. Goals came from Dominic Cairney-Hill and Joey Lowy to put the team in a dominant position. Sharp goal keeping from Danny Newell and Thurston Monk and solid defending from Callum Lee and Edward McNally kept Stretfordians to a single goal.
A second goal from Oliver Schofield-McCarthy early in the final 15 minutes period sealed the result and meant that all 12 members of the squad got a chance to spend some time on the pitch. The win capped a great season in which the Under 9’s have won 16 of the 25 games they have played, scoring 78 goals, with every player in the squad scoring at least once. The Oswald Road boys will show off the trophy at school on Monday and look forward to showing it at the club presentation night in June.

Under 9s Hough End Friendly
Following three league defeats on the run, Oswald Road U9’s played Hough End in Sunday morning friendlies and beat the A Team 2-1 and the B team 3-0. The wins came despite the fact that they did not play as well as they can do in either game.
Last weeks 2-1 defeat by Wilmslow was the closest result against the Division Two winners who were up to this weekend undefeated, scoring an average of 7.5 goals per game.
Strong defensive performances and some determined attacking produced the results against Hough End, overcoming some gaping holes in midfield.
All eyes now are on the Division Two Cup Final on Sunday 14th May against Stretfordians at Trafford F.C. in Flixton k.o. at 9.45 a.m. Please come and support us on the day.

UNDER 9’S REACH CUP FINAL
Oswald Road under 9’s fought hard and played well to reach the Divisional Cup Final in their semi final game against Broadheath Barracudas. The first fifteen minutes were slightly dull, however there was plenty of action at each end but no one could manage to put the ball in the net.
Before the second third the Oswald Road coach set the team a challenge which was to score twice in that third. They came very close to doing so but at least they managed one. In the first ten minutes of the last third Oswald Road managed to maintain their lead but they could not hold on any longer. Broadheath equalized with four minutes to go meaning only one thing; EXTRA TIME! .
The first seven and a half minutes were goalless meaning it was all to play for in the last period of extra time. Finally Oswald Road made the breakthrough when what was meant to be a cross, turned into a goal.
Well that was Semi-Final number one but in the other a shock result was that Unicorn Wizards were beaten 4-3 by Stretfordians. The final takes place on Sunday 14th May in Urmston.

Report on the under 9s 4th February game against Ryleys Nomads from Edward McNally (aged 9) and Dave McNally (coach).
After last week’s surprising 3-3 draw with bottom of the table Stretford Victoria, Oswald Road U9’s this week beat Ryleys Nomads for the second time this season, scoring only one goal less than in the earlier 5-1 victory.
The team overcame their habit of letting the opposition dominate the first third of the game with an early goal from Ilya Szkwarok. Before the end of the first 15 minutes though Oswald Road’s attacking play let Ryleys in when, for the only time in the game, players didn’t get back behind the ball.
Pressure in the second 15 minutes brought about an own goal from the unlucky Ryleys Nomads keeper.
Consistently solid defending from combinations of Devonte Cantrill, Callum Lee, Arsalan Mahmood, Demornia Cantrell, Edward McNally, Jacob White and Oliver Schofield-McCarthy kept Ryleys to a single goal.
Good support play in midfield from Thurston Monk, Joey Lowy, Ilya Szkwarok and Tommy Whittell meant more goals were always likely for Oswald Road.
Like other opponents Ryleys Nomads didn’t know how to handle Edward McNally’s long throws, one creating the first gaol and then again for the third goal scored by Tommy Whittell in the final 15 minutes. Tommy scored a second goal near the end of the match from an almost impossible angle to wrap up a comfortable 4-1 victory.
The win will keep the under 9s near the top of Timperley and District Junior Football League Division 2 Table. Next weeks game (11th February) is a return to Stretford Victoria for a Cup Quarter Final.

Under 9s match report by Edward McNally age 9
Oswald Road U9’s came back fantastically on Saturday after a well earned two week break. The last game the U9’s played was against Unicorn Wizards at home. They were the better team on the day and therefore won 5-2.
However this week Oswald road came up with something a bit more memorable. They beat Broadheath Barracudas 3-0!
With some brilliant defending in the first third and some amazing goal keeping in the second. Also in the second third a goal was headed home of a free kick which made it 1-0 to Oswald Road. And then in the third third there were two more goals scored.
Next week we play Wythenshawe Town away.

Another great win for the Under 9s!
Saturday’s return under 9’s away game at Dean Sports was nearly a repeat of last week’s home win. Deans Sports was where Man United got Ryan Giggs from but the penetrating runs on Saturday all came from Oswald Road.
6 goals this week rather than last weeks 7, again with only 1 against, was the result of great teamwork, excellent passing and shooting at every opportunity. Again only the Dean’s keeper stopped it being a much larger margin of victory.
Before Saturday’s game 13 of the15 under 9’s squad had scored at least one goal this season. Of the two none-scorers Lyndon Mayhew-Dodd scored in the second third of the game. That left only Edward McNally to break his duck. He was sent back on with seven minutes to go and scored with only five minutes left (although at first the ref wasn’t going to give it!).
The whole squad having scored both shows the level of participation from the players and vindicates the policy of rotating the players in different positions.
The win will keep the under 9’s in second place in their league. The games next week and just after New Year are against teams that we lost to at the start of the season, so the team will have to be in top from over the holiday period to maintain second place.

Under 9s match report 3 December 2005 from coach Dave McNally
Following a rather dull 1-0 win last week at Lymm Rovers, the Under 9’s hit top form this week with a 7-1 win over Dean Sports. After a typically slow start, the team were 1-0 up after the first 15 minutes, scoring 4 in the second and 3 in the last 15 minutes.
The under 9’s command in this match came from a combination of superb support play and shooting at every opportunity. This was the best all round team performance of the season so far, which will keep them in second place in the league. Next week the under 9’s play Deans Sports again away.

Oswald Road Under 16s - November 05 STILL TOP OF THE LEAGUE!
After the great start to the season, apart from a surprise defeat to Longey, the team has continued to win and remains top (W7,D1,L1- goals for 48, goals against 14). The defeat to Longhey (2-5) will stop any complacency- too many lads had late nights and it showed on the pitch. The referee could not be blamed, he was superb I thought- as was Tom O'Reilly's shot for the second goal.
Good wins over Wilmslow (4-2) and newcomers Irlam (4-1) were followed by the comprehensive defeat of Broadheath (11-0).
The whole team are playing together as a unit, from Sam Francis in goal who saved a penalty against Irlam through the defence- particular mention of Aatif Raja who was MOM v Broadheath, the midfield with Miles Luckin outstanding v Wilmslow and Johnny Collins MOM v Longhey and the attack: upfront we have a real threat with Peter Redmond (9 goals), Tom McManus (14 goals) and Karl Brown (4 in 2 games).
The run in to Xmas, with games against Chorlton Sports and Wythenshawe coming up, should hopefully see us still in first place at the half way mark. Already the home fixtures against Longhey and Sale United in the new year look as thought they may be crucial in deciding the title - but with 13 games still to play we should not count our chickens in case the turkies come home to roost! There are a lot of xmas parties coming up and the team will have to decide their priorities- no more missing matches because of failed transport back from parties or oversleeping, and as for being locked up - it was certainly a first as a reason not to turn up (fortunately a case of mistaken identity!).

Oswald Road Under 16s Season 2005-2006
TOP OF THE LEAGUE!
After finishing a very creditable 4th place last season in the Timperley League, this season has seen a very encouraging start . Pete and Nick managed to recruit some new faces to replace Michael, Robert, Max and Gavin who all decided in the close season to hang up their boots. We welcomed to the team Tom McManus, Karl Brown, Calvin Hitchman and Jonathan Wilson who have all fitted in extremely well.
After a comfortable 2-1 pre-season friendly win over Broadheath, goals scored by newcomer Tom McManus and Danny Blythin Hammond, the team has taken maximum points from Bowden Rangers (7-0), Parkwydden (7-2) and Benchill Celtic (8-0) dropping 2 points away at Sale United A in an exciting 3-3 draw.
Bowden Rangers, the league’s usual struggling team, were comfortably beaten with some clinical football, the defence including Aatif Raja, Calvin, Alex Baker and Lewis Marshall easily shielding Sam Francis in goal to such an extent that he was rarely called upon to show his talents. Goals came from Tom McManus (2), Peter Redmond, Paul Clayton and Ben Lavin with Bowden giving 2 own goals. Man of the Match Sailesh Vara playing alongside the previous week’s man of the match Tom O’Reilly in central midfield ensured Miles Luckin, the team’s captain wasn’t missed , absent through injury.
Sale United A were stronger opposition. Even without 3 players and carrying injuries we were disappointed to only draw, giving away goals from 2 set pieces and 1 through a defensive disaster! Tom McManus led from the front with a deserved Man Of The Match Award and 1 goal, Sailesh and Danny scoring the others. Sam pulled off a tremendous save in the last minute to avoid a defeat which would have been very harsh.
Parkwydden were a very different proposition, runners up the previous season, strong, aggressive, skilful and abusive but dispatched easily in the end. The main danger was our players reacting to the provocation, the crowd wincing at some terrible, cynical tackles; I have to say the referee in the first half did a superb job under difficult circumstances! Tom McManus didn’t over react even when spat at and head butted. Adam Horley, leading the defence was a deserving Man of the Match, goals from Miles(2), Sailesh(2), Tom McManus (2) and Peter.
October’s first game was against Benchill who were no match for some of the best football Oswald Road have ever played, the football flowing, accurate fast passing, great movement, strong in the tackle and clinical finishing- Man of the Match Peter scoring 4, Tom McManus (2), Sailesh and centre half Calvin- hitting a twenty yard shot to finish the rout. Although the victory was a team effort, special mention should go to Miles and Tom O’Reilly in the midfield and Ben on the wing who were strong contenders for Man of the Match.
