gU13 12-Jan-08: Oswald Rd 2-14 Cadishead (HT 0-6)

Awaiting match report.

Zoe

This was a much better game than last week. First of all we had Katie back. Secondly everyone was awake – I suspect this definitely helps in a game of football. Ruqayyah and Zoe had forgotten their inhalers again but you can’t have everything – so they ran out of steam at some points of the game. Though Cadishead pushed us back we defended well for a while (Ruqayyah and Rudi helping out as needed) and we also put together a few nice attacking moves with Tara running out of defence and passing the ball to Katie, Ruqayyah and Zoe who combined well. Katie was a bit rusty (not played or trained since mid December) and so she took a bit of time to get up to speed – missed a couple of chances she’d normally have put away and got quite tired before the end of the match but her tackling and passes showed what we missed in the previous match.. In the first half, if we hadn’t made a couple of silly mistakes in defence and put away our chances we could have finished only 3-4 down! Against a very good team.

In the second half, we threw caution to the winds and attacked a lot more – so we also let in a lot more goals. At least half the goals could have been stopped if we were fitter and kept position better but did score two very good goals – good flowing passing moves between 3 or 4 players and Zoe running onto the final pass and calmly picking her spot. Rudi was left exposed a lot with everyone attacking so much but she kept her cool and the defence did their best though they were often outnumbered.

gU13 10-Nov-07: Cadishead Sports 11-0 Oswald Rd (HT 5-0)

Last week went good. Everybody played well, we lost 10-0 to Cadishead football team which was great compared to what we lost last time which was 17-0.

The Players (in order):
Becky – Played well in goal, got some great saves. Also played well out of goal and didn’t let the other team get the ball which was great.
Katie – Shot some good powerful kicks and passed the ball well when she was out of goal plus got some great kicks when she was in goal.
Kenesha – helped out loads during the first half and ran really fast during the second half, she used the wing which was great.
Rookie – played well in mid-defence. Also managed to get some brilliant kicks in every time the other team got too near the goal.
Shaye – played great in defence, panicked a bit when the ball went near her but managed to get the ball away at times which is better than anything!
Sophie – also played great in defence and got some brilliant kicks which kicked the ball away from the goal even though she had to keep pushing up!
Tara – communicated really well when she had the ball and was running rapid up and down the pitch!
Zoe – also communicated well whilst passing the ball plus she ran rapid – nearly got a goal in too!

Shaye

Oswald Rd are still improving – this time our defence was much better and Cadishead had to make some exceptional moves and shots to score. Of course, we had the usual share of silly goals let in: Straight from a goal kick, attempted clearance across goal, trying to dribble past everyone while not gaining any ground and not passing – the normal ones we do less and less of nowadays. This game, the defence moved up more often when we had possession, closing the gap between them and midfield. This was successful quite a few times with either Cadishead attackers being caught offside or having our defenders pressurising then straight away rather than after they had plenty of time to gain speed and work out what to do. We also had a set of mishaps, as with any newly learnt skill, and a couple of times Cadishead passed the ball between the defenders and ran past them (they were fast players), and as we got more tired the defenders didn’t always come up together and so played the Cadishead attack onside. We didn’t care – this was a learning experience, and we got better at it as the match went on. We did have a few attacks but our attack isn’t yet fast or good enough at passing – they did give the Caddy defenders a few scares though with Kenesha and Zoe zipping through a few times.

Awaiting match report.

Becky

Tenerife was great – 28 degrees C most of the time, nice food and relaxed times. Would have been even better without the kids…. Match report from a coach will be coming sometime. The game was a friendly as we had only 6 players (no, I don’t know who the other player on holiday was) and Cadishead didn’t play a full 9-a-side team (but not just 6). Apparently Katie played really well for her two goals and so did Tara, showing more of her usual ball control and shot power.

Zoe

This was the definitive ‘game of two halves’ – in the first half we were overwhelmed by the speed, passing and dribbling of Cadishead’s players and ran around a lot but to no avail. Their swift passing and running enabled them to get past our defence and score 5 goals before Becky, who started up front because we wanted Katie’s powerful goal kicks to help us get the ball out of out half, injured her ankle and went back into goal. This strengthened our midfield as Katie went into the middle but combating a pass-and-run game needs a very organised defence – ours was too inexperienced in the first half and we let in 6 more goals before the half ended. There was one ray of light when a good pass from Katie freed Tara who ran with the ball and coolly put it past their goalkeeper – Tara had nearly been offside but kept a close eye on their defenders to stay just onside before Katie’s pass.

The second half was very different – the players were learning fast and getting a lot of experience in a short time! We defended a lot better – defenders stuck to attackers and others came in to back them up, attackers were marked a lot better and generally Cadishead found it harder to break through. Goal kicks weren’t just left to their attackers to pick up and we put together some good passes. Initially we started the second half slowly and Cadishead scored a very good goal, but then when they pressed again, Sophie got the ball off them and passed up the field to Katie who found herself temporarily free from markers – she picked up speed and went past a couple of players and smacked the ball past their goalie! Cadishead were having to try much harder now and their goals in this half were all very well worked out, with good passing and fierce shots into goal – except for one, a beautiful clearance lob from Katie over Rebecca who managed to get a hand on it but couldn’t prevent it going into our own goal. Katie then made up for it by scoring another goal (this time at the right end) after a good passing move ended with Tara crossing it to Katie. Caddy scored a couple of goals in time added n for injuries – in the second half a couple of out players got injured and we played for some of that half with only 7! So attaining a half-match score of 6-2 was quite impressive after the 11-1 first half. Well done for the second half girls!

Goals: 1st half – Caddy 1’, 6’, 8’, 12’, 15’, Becky goes into goal instead of Katie, 17’ then Tara at 20’, Caddy 22’, 24’, 25’, 30’, 34’.

2nd half – Caddy 40’, Katie at 42’, Caddy 46’, 55’, 58’ (Katie’s brilliant OG), 62’, Katie at 70’, Caddy 70’+2’ and finally at 70’+3’
